Northern Ireland

Cities – From Most to Least Favourite:

  • (London)Derry
  • Belfast

Best Things to Do:

Northern Ireland has seen so much turmoil in the last 100 years. Since Ireland officially separated from the United Kingdom, Northern Ireland has been in a state of distress between the British and the Irish. This makes the country a very interesting place to visit, but don’t worry it is a very safe place! Depending on who you ask, the British will say Londonderry and the Irish will say Derry, is one of my favourite places I have visited. Derry was the place of ‘Bloody Sunday’ which later turned into a U2 song. With tensions only settling in the 1990s, Derry was a very historical and profound place to visit. While in Derry I highly recommend you go to the Museum of Free Derry, visit the Free Derry Wall, take a Free Derry walking tour, walk the Derry city walls and go to the Tower Museum.

Belfast was another interesting experience, I was unaware that the Catholic and Protestant parts are separated by a wall called the ‘peace lines’ that shuts down at night. We took a three-hour political conflict tour, guided by an ex-NRA member and an ex-Loyalist and spanned both sides of the wall, if you want to know more about the conflict in that area I highly recommend this tour. Finally, no trip to Belfast is complete without visiting the Titanic museum, which is expensive but worth the visit.

While in Northern Ireland, you should also stop at the Giant’s Causeway, Carrick-A-Rede Bridge, Dark Hedges, Dunluce Castle, Gobbins Cliff Path and the Mussenden Temple.
